The Romantics, banda norteamericana de rock and roll originaria de Detroit, adoptaron su nombre por fundarse como grupo, el 14 de febrero de 1977, día de San Valentín.
La Invasión Británica de los años sesenta influyó en su estilo fuerte, estilizado y pegajoso. Grupos como los Kinks, Who, Beatles, Hollies y los Rolling Stones marcaron decididamente la forma de interpretar de los Romantics.
Como grupo tuvieron éxito en casi todo el mundo a inicios de los años ochenta, pero no alcanzaron a despegar como grandes estrellas de rock. Sus dos hits más importantes fueron "What I like about you" y "Talking in your sleep".
